Lake Wedowee, officially known as R.L. Harris Reservoir, is a favorite destination for anglers from all over Alabama and beyond. With its beautiful waters and healthy fish populations, it's no wonder this lake is considered a hidden gem. But before you hit the water, it’s important to know the size limits and bag limits that help protect this beautiful lake.

Here’s your quick guide to the current fishing regulations on Lake Wedowee:

🎯 Largemouth Bass Slot Limit

  • All largemouth bass between 13 and 16 inches MUST be released unharmed.

  • This special slot limit is designed to protect the prime breeding population and improve the overall fishery for future generations.

🎣 Black Bass (Largemouth, Smallmouth, Spotted, etc.)

  • Daily Creel Limit: 10 black bass total per person.

  • Smallmouth Bass Rule: Out of those 10, no more than 5 can be smallmouth bass.

🦑 Crappie (Black and White)

  • Daily Creel Limit: 30 crappie per person.

  • Size Limit: Any crappie less than 9 inches in total length must be released.

🐟 Catfish

  • Catfish under 34 inches: No daily limit — catch away!

  • Catfish over 34 inches: Limited to 1 catfish per person per day over this length.

🐠 Bream (Bluegill, Redear Sunfish & other Sunfish)

  • Daily Creel Limit: 50 bream per person.

  • That’s plenty for a classic southern fish fry! 🐟🍋

🪪 License Reminder!

All anglers 16 years and older must have a valid Alabama fishing license when fishing public waters — including Lake Wedowee. Licenses are available online at Outdoor Alabama or at authorized retailers.
