Legacy: Rooted in the Past, Growing into the Future

There’s something truly special about a legacy—the kind that’s built over time, with heart, hard work, and a deep love for community. In this issue, we’re shining a light on the businesses and places that have become cornerstones of life around Lake Wedowee. From WM Grocery and Perryland Foods to Norton’s Flooring, these local, family-run businesses have stood the test of time and are still going strong. 💪

We’re also reflecting on the history of the RL Harris Dam—a force that helped shape our region’s growth and brought new energy (literally and figuratively) to the area we call home. ⚡ It’s a reminder that legacies aren’t just about the past—they’re about building something that lasts into the future.

And speaking of legacies, this year marks 17 years since my parents and I launched Lake Wedowee Life. While we may not have the decades under our belt like the other legacy businesses in this issue, we’re proud to be a family-owned magazine that’s grown with this community. 🗞️

What started in 2008 as a local passion project has expanded into a growing publishing family—WEDO Media—including Alabama Small Towns and Downtowns, Southern Holiday Life, and next month, the launch of Alabama Foodie! 🍽️

We’ve even had the joy of sharing Alabama’s charm with readers around the world, thanks to relationships built through Alabama Tourism. 🌍 It’s been an incredible journey—and it’s all thanks to you, our readers, neighbors, and partners who have supported us every step of the way.

So here’s to the legacies we celebrate, the ones we’re building, and the stories still waiting to be told.

Enjoy Life!
Kelly
