New City Park for Wedowee

Last Updated 10/17/2024Posted in Wedowee, Community

Mayor Tim Coe was told once, "Hey, you know the city of Wedowee really ought to have a physical connection to the lake, a piece of land that our citizens and visitors can utilize."

He ran with the idea and worked with the city council to pursue some options. He found a family who was selling a piece of land right as you enter the town of Wedowee on Highway 431. It has a large retaining wall already built, lovely big trees and a shoreline right by the bridge over Wedowee Creek. Now that beautiful piece of property belongs to the city of Wedowee.

Mayor Tim and the city council have lots of ideas about how to best use the park. They are working with people who do design renderings at the moment to find the best way to utilize the land to see which of their dreams can become reality, to see what is actually feasible. They are very much in the discovery phase of how to best use the land.

Some of their ideas are a covered pavilion for picnics, a kayak launch, fishing area and/or a playground.

Take notice the next time that you are driving over the bridge across from Chimney Cove to see how the city is converting the land into a much needed public space and start dreaming about ways in which this new public space can be utilized for the community.

Congrats to the City of Wedowee!
