What's Your Lake Wedowee Tradition?

Last Updated 6/17/2025

There’s something about Lake Wedowee that turns ordinary moments into lifelong memories. Maybe it’s the way the water reflects the sky just right at sunset, or how the summer air smells like sunscreen, boat gas, and barbecue. Whatever the reason, this lake has a way of creating traditions that stick — year after year, generation after generation.

For some, it’s as simple as a first cup of coffee on the dock, toes just brushing the water, while the world slowly wakes up. Others swear by their Saturday morning routine at the local gas station, swapping stories, topping off the boat, and loading up the cooler like clockwork.

There are traditions tied to holidays — like fireworks shows that light up the lake on the Fourth of July, or boats parading down the water decked in red, white, and blue. Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends often mark the unofficial beginning and end of summer, celebrated with float parades, music echoing across the coves, and impromptu fish fries on every shoreline.

Then there are the little things — the “unofficial rules” of lake life that become rituals in their own right:

  • Parking the pontoon in the same cove every Sunday

  • Playing cards by lantern light when the power goes out during a storm

  • Yelling “last one in’s a rotten egg!” before a sunset swim

  • Pulling out the old guestbook and seeing who made it “home” this season

Some traditions are loud, like tubing tournaments or cornhole battles. Others are quiet: watching fireflies from the porch, or leaving a life jacket hanging just so — because it’ll be used again tomorrow.

Lake Wedowee has a way of inviting people to slow down, show up, and create rhythms worth repeating.

So we want to know: What’s your Wedowee tradition?

Do you have a favorite dock day ritual? A holiday habit? A can’t-miss weekend plan?
