Lake Loving Small Town On The 4th of July

The Fourth of July is always a treat on the lake. Find any wide open space and you will get the joy of firework shows around the shoreline. This year we had a front row view of the Sand Harbor fireworks (see the origin story in this Lake Wedowee Legacies issue from this year) across the cove. There were at least 50 boats in the cove all lit up and full of viewers enjoying the show. The show started with a band that could be heard across the cove and culminated in the longest fireworks show I've ever seen. 45 minutes of nonstop amazing fireworks. Every round seemed like the "grand finale" until the real one came around and people cheered and clapped at the excitement of it all.

For the first time in many years, the city of Wedowee held a 4th of July parade. It was, as you can imagine, the hottest flesh melting heat of the year, as is typical for July. The rain held off and we were blessed with a mercifully short, community honoring parade full of horses, tractors, and a ghostbusters car! There were other cool cars and local heroes and she-roes riding through town.
