Family, Farms & Fresh Cuts: Why Knowing Your Meat Source Matters

Last Updated 7/7/2025

In small towns across the South, it’s still possible to know your neighbor, shop local, and trust where your food comes from. That’s especially true when it comes to buying meat. Two nearby businesses—Mathews Meat Market in Lineville and Anniston, and Key Farms in Carrollton and Bremen—are giving families a better way to buy fresh, high-quality meat straight from the source.

🛒 Mathews Meat Market

Lineville & Anniston, AL
Owners: Justin & Jennifer Turner

Justin Turner started his career as a local butcher, but in 2022 he and his wife Jennifer decided to expand their family’s livestock operation. By the end of 2023, they had become full-time farmers and purchased Mathews Meat Market in Lineville. Today, the Turners raise, process, and sell their own USDA-inspected beef, pork, lamb, goat, and chicken.

In 2024, they opened a second location in Anniston, continuing their mission to bring farm-fresh meats to local families.

What You’ll Find:

  • USDA-inspected beef, pork, lamb, goat & chicken

  • Whole, half & quarter shares available

  • Local eggs, house-made sausage & marinades

  • Custom meat processing for farmers & hunters

🐖 Key Farms

Carrollton & Bremen, GA
Owners: Dr. Allison & David Key

What began as a small family herd is now a thriving operation run by David Key, a civil engineer, and his wife Allison, a family physician. They raise grass-fed, hormone-free beef, pasture-raised pork, and free-range chicken using sustainable practices that prioritize both health and ethics.

Their first retail store opened in Carrollton in 2022, with a second following in Bremen in 2024.

What You’ll Find:

  • Grass-fed, pasture-raised beef

  • Pork and chicken raised without hormones

  • Individual cuts, bulk orders & seasonal bundles

  • Online ordering with in-store pickup

🐄 Why Buy Local Meat?

Buying local means more than just convenience—it’s about making healthier, more responsible choices for your family and your community.

  • Better Quality: Fresher, cleaner, more flavorful meat

  • Full Transparency: Know how your food was raised

  • Local Support: Keeps dollars in your community

  • Sustainable Practices: Better for animals and the environment

Whether you’re grilling out on a summer evening or preparing a holiday meal, buying meat from Mathews Meat Market or Key Farms ensures you’re getting food you can trust—from families who care.
